Glass Waves Bio Our sound combines layered guitar textures with melody-focused songwriting. Moods range from landscapes evocative of today's instrumental indie rock to more compact song forms, with elements of no wave, shoegaze, indie pop, and the occasional nod to Bakersfield country. Glass Waves began when long time musical collaborators Jordan Heimburger (guitar, vocals), Micah Johnson (bass) and Nate Gregg (drums) got together to work up a collection of Jordan's bedroom demos in the summer of 2008. Since that fall, we've been performing around the St. Louis area and recording our debut album. On stage, Jordan uses a live sampler to loop and layer guitar parts, building up textures like those heard in our studio recordings. In May 2009 we released our debut album "One Day We'll All Just Float Away" as a free download. Thanks to a couple of blog write-ups, especially on frostclick.com, we've had close to 60,000 downloads already. One Day was mixed by Ben Majchrzak and Glass Waves, and mastered by Brad Sarno at Blue Jade Audio Mastering.
Jordan has been active in the St Louis music scene since the early '00s. Some of his former projects include Walkie Talkie USA (bass), Red Eyed Driver (guitar, backup vocal) and his own delta blues-styled trio Poorman's Tonic. Jordan currently plays guitar with the Incurables and accepts occasional side-man and recording gigs in addition to the time he spends teaching guitar and bass.
Micah has supplied bass frequencies for a number of groups, including Poorman's Tonic, Auset, and Leslie Sanazaro Santi. He's a current member of St Louis reggae staple Dub Kitchen, alternating between percussion and bass.
Nate recently returned to St Louis from Chicago, where his band the Personals are about to release an album. Photos by Liz Rolf & Glass Waves |
